// The Province
Where this
all comes from.
The Appalachian high country of North Carolina — Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany — was called the Lost Province because it was cut off from the rest of the state by mountains and didn't get a railroad until everyone else had moved on. The people who stayed learned to make things themselves.
This section is a love letter to that place. The geography, the character, the organizations and people worth knowing about. Not a highlight reel — a resource. Written from inside it, by someone who grew up here and never fully left.
The high country has its own time.
This section will too.
